Troubleshooting MoneyPal

From PalOMoney

MoneyPal is the Windows console (command line) updater that currently updates quotes in a Money file. It is normally launched from PalOMoney, and displays the black window that can very quickly flash by and close. In this case, it is nearly impossible to read MoneyPal messages, including errors, when launched from PalOMoney.

MoneyPal can be used from a script, or directly from the command line. This capability allows us to run exactly the same command from a command prompt (console) window. The difference is that the console window does not close after MoneyPal exits, so any messages remain visible.

You can play with this by re-running PalOMoney's Last Launch.

  • Open a command prompt (console) window. Hit Start | All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt.
  • Use Windows Explorer to locate and open the folder containing your Money file.
  • Locate and use Notepad to open PalOMoney.ini.
  • Scroll to the [MoneyPal] section, and observe the Last Launch= entry. It can be quite long.
  • Select the entry after the equals ('=') sign to the end of the (long) line.
  • Press Ctrl+C to copy the entry to the Windows clipboard.
  • Click in the command prompt window to activate it
  • Click the System Menu (upper left icon in the title bar), and select Edit | Paste to paste the command line into the console window. You can also use Alt+Enter | E(dit) | P(aste), which is quicker.
  • Make sure the entire line, including initial double-quotes, but not including Last Launch= is pasted.
  • If using a password, substitute your Money file password for PASSWORD to read -pYourPassword (no space between -p and your password).
  • Press Enter to launch MoneyPal.
  • Observe the result.

This is easier than this procedure looks. Try it!
